Caramel apples are one of my favorite snacks when it comes time for Halloween goodies. I have tried making homemade caramel apples a couple times in the past, without very much success. I tried to use a homemade caramel recipe, and it was too runny to stay on the caramel. So one year we went the totally lazy route and just went with the caramel apple wraps that you microwave for a few seconds and fold over your apples, and that actually worked pretty well, but just isn’t as fun.
This year I finally gave up on trying to make semi homemade caramel and just went with the store bought caramel bits and it worked like a charm. (You could also use caramel pieces but I knew I would be melting them and didn’t want to have to unwrap so many).
In the next couple days I will post a couple more delicious recipes on how to spice up your caramel apples with some extra things. But this recipe is perfect for the basic and simple caramel apples that are delicious and I know you all love (Actually, Nate doesn’t love caramel apples – I always want them, and he doesn’t, sad)
Easy Caramel Apples
1 1/2 cups caramel bits
1 TBS milk
4 large apples (I like green the best for the sweet and sour combo!)
4 popsicle sticks or lollipop sticks
1. Combine caramel bits and milk in a medium sized bowl.
2. Microwave for 2 minutes, then stir everything together.
3. Wash and slightly scrub apples with your hand. Dry off completely.
4. Insert sticks into the middle of each apple.
5. Dip each apple into the caramel, and spread additionally with a spoon if necessary.
Enjoy these easy to make caramel apples any day but especially just before Halloween!
