I believe I have mentioned that Craig spent the summer training for the St. George Marathon. He really followed a diligent program and it paid off. He did fantastic with his best time ever in a marathon, 3:34:18. He was 40th in his age division and had a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon. WhooHooo!
As part of his training he knew he would need to replenish his energy and rebuild his muscles right away, so often he had a glass of chocolate milk. But then we learned about Campbell’s V8 Protein Shakes and Bars. Each bar has 10 grams of protein and each shake has 12 grams of protein. On our next visit to Walmart we grabbed some shakes and bars from the pharmacy section/health and beauty aisles. Yeah, I know that sounds weird but these good guys are right there along with the other healthy drinks like Ensure, the Campbell’s V8 Protein shakes are a protein drink not an energy drink. Our Walmart had on their shelves; chocolate and vanilla shakes but you should be also able to find chocolate raspberry. I really want to try that flavor next time.
Yes, I have also been drinking the shakes and eating the Campbell’s V8 Protein Bars. I even started to run too. Nothing quite like Craig, you won’t be finding me running a marathon but I am up to 4 miles on a good day with flat ground. Since I started to run, Craig has been reminding me that I need to rebuild those muscles too. I am making sure to do that with my own bottle of V8 chocolate protein shake. I really like the flavor, a nice deep rich chocolate. You wouldn’t even know each one has 1/4 cup of vegetables; like sweet potatoes, carrots, and peas. I did not even hesitate to try these because I have been drinking V8 since high school and that was a long time ago.
The Campbell’s V8 Protein Bars might have even become my favorite snack during the day. Why? Because they taste good, it is that simple. The oatmeal raisin bar has lots of oats and raisins along with carrots, sweet potatoes, soy protein, and brown rice syrup. There is also a chocolate peanut butter protein bar that is just as good. These bars contain about the same amount of calories as your other granola bars but I can testify they keep me energized. I have eaten one of these during my morning break at work, I get involved with projects and forget about lunch but I haven’t ran out of steam. I really like that. I really believe they are a good for you choice.
Now if I keep this up I will be ready for that Avocado 5K or even the half marathon in May. Wish me luck!
