After making our new recipe index with a page for each category, I realized (even more than I knew already) that the recipes I make are a little lopsided for certain categories. A lot of desserts and a lot of chicken.
Although this recipe could technically be considered a dessert (and I ate it like one) its would also make a delicious breakfast piece, whether as the main course of breakfast or part of a large breakfast celebration or brunch.
The cream cheese inside this danish isn’t too sweet, but if you top these with a little powdered sugar and berries like I did then its the perfect amount of sweetness, also with a good balance of tartness from the berries.
Another great thing about this recipe is that it is so easy. It is literally only 5 steps and only takes about 15 minutes to whip together, so its perfect for an early morning breakfast.
Cream Cheese Danish
8 oz cream cheese **
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 tubes crescent rolls
optional: powdered sugar and mixed berries
** I used fat free cream cheese
1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
2. Combine cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla in a medium sized bowl.
3. Press two crescent rolls together on the long seam to make a square.
4. Spoon cream cheese evenly between each square.
5. Bring opposite corners together and pinch together to seal.
6. Place on nonstick baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes until dough turns a light golden brown
Enjoy sprinkled with powdered sugar and topped with berries.

My batter was really runny too. I’ve got it in the fridge chilling for a bit to see if it will thicken up a bit. I just tried to spoon some in and it was all over the place when I tried to fold!

My batter was a little runny, but it thickens as it cooks. Sorry it was so messy for you.

Thanks I’m making two batches this morning for a birthday brunch!

Use 2 yolks…no egg white and it won’t be runny

A little confused about the amount this makes if there are 8 crescents in a roll and you need 2 crescents to make a square that only make 4 per roll am I mistaken?
Aimee Berrett says
Sorry you are right. My math was wrong, it makes 8 square danishes
sprecklesface says
how many do these make?
Aimee Berrett says
There are 8 crescent rolls in each can. So this makes 16 danishes

Thanks. I am in the middle of making this now and it totally didn’t turn out at all. The cream cheese filling was really runny with the egg. Are you supposed to use block cream cheese? I used spreadable..
Aimee Berrett says
I did use a block of cream cheese. However it was very thin for me still. It was a messy process to put the danishes all together, but they baked out well. Sorry it didn’t turn out for you 🙁

No worries. I used an apple cinnamon cream cheese and instead used the mix to glaze the croissants and they turned out delicious and smelled like heaven!
Aimee Berrett says
Mmm that sounds so yummy. I am glad they turned out for you!

I love these! So pretty, and I’d eat them as dessert too!

Thank you! I love when breakfast food is sweet enough to be a dessert!

One of my favorite breakfast pastries ever. I love cream cheese danishes! I haven’t had one in so long. And now this is all I want for breakfast tomorrow. They look so good!
