No matter how much I try to follow all 9 of these tips on how to save money on groceries, I have noticed that the most efficient way for me to actually save each month is through meal planning.
Planning out our meals each week, or even a rough plan for the month allows me to 1) buy things when they are on sale and 2)buy bulk of items that I will use for multiple meals and 3)overlap ingredients so nothing goes to waste.
I’ve decided that the best way for me to meal plan and actually stick to it is to write up a list of the meals and foods I want to make (usually found through pinterest or some of my favorite blogs) and make a list of ingredients that I would need to buy for each meal. If there is one dish that requires too many new ingredients then I’m not going to make that dish, but also if there are a few ingredients that over lap between multiple meals then those will be the meals I will make.
The best way for me to keep track of my weekly and monthly meal plan is by writing the meals out on a calendar that I’ve made specifically for that purpose. Of course sometimes our day to day life gets too busy and days get switched around or meals get forgotten. But generally this is a great way for me to make sure that I can use up ingredients while they are still good (for example if I only use half a can of corn in one meal I need to use it within a couple days so that it doesn’t get wasted). This is all still a work in progress for me (so far its impossible for us to plan more than the next weeks meals in advance), but I know that if I can keep to my meal plan it will help us to save money as well as to eat healthier.

I was a little concerned at first because the board was hard to erase with just a paper towel or dry eraser, but there is a simple solution and you just need to clean it with 91% rubbing alcohol and your board will look like new each time.
I love my new Decoboard. and I can’t wait to use it to help me with my weekly and hopefully soon monthly meal planning.
