Nate and I were engaged on February 12, 2010. I told Nate he couldn’t propose on Valentine’s day, but really I wasn’t expecting him to propose for another month or so (I thought he wanted his mom to help him pick out the ring and she was coming the next month – and he had told me he forgot to ask my dad for permission when they were in town). It was a Friday, he invited me to a work luncheon activity at the park. We went to the park and no one was there, but he just said they were running a little late and would be there soon. We started to walk around the park a little and he told me there was actually no luncheon. I was mostly just confused and then he took a little box out of his pocket and started to tell me a lot of different reasons why he loved me. I still didn’t really realize what was going on. He got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so excited, of course I said yes! And I pulled the ring out of the box and put it on my own finger!
After he proposed we were both very excited, we called our parents to let them know (even though they both already knew it was happening then) and then we decided to go and actually get lunch to celebrate. We decided to go to Nicolitalia’s. Â We had been their once before, and we both love pizza, so we figured it was a good place to go.
Of course to this day, almost 3 and a half years later we still remember that wonderful day when Nate proposed to me and we went to Nico’s afterwards. But, we don’t only go to Nico’s because of the memory. We go there because the pizza is amazing.
At Nicolitalia Pizzeria, the pizza is Boston Styled. I haven’t actually had pizza in Boston, but the pizza is amazing regardless. The pizza is normally a thin crust pizza, which is a pretty good thin crust, though I haven’t had it in a while, but Nate and I always pay a little extra to get the deep dish styled pizza crust instead. We figure the extra 3 dollars or so is worth it because we usually end up with leftovers this way, and to be honest we both like the crust a lot better this way.
A couple of times ago when we went we also ordered mozzarella sticks in addition to our pizza. Let me just tell you, that they are amazing. Now every time we have gone since then we ordered the mozzarella sticks again because they are so good. The cheese in the middle is so gooey and cheesey and delicious and the breading is crunchy and delicious too. Plus they come with a little bowl of their amazing sauce to dip them into. I could probably just order the mozzarella sticks and be happy with it, but of course I don’t because I love their pizza!
Our two favorite types of pizza that we have gotten from Nico’s are their Nicolitalia’s Special (which is like a supreme) and their Meatza Chiena (which is loaded with 5 different meats). The Meatza Chiena is probably my favorite, but I haven’t gotten anything that I really didn’t like there.
The restaurant was started by this guy named Nico who came from Boston and he is awesome. He’s got this great Bostonian accent, and he would always yell out your name over the microphone when your pizza was ready. I think the restaurant is now under different ownership, but don’t let that fool you because their food is still just as delicious. (Though I do miss the fun atmosphere that Nico created). The set up of the restaurant is still quite fun though with silly sayings and pictures and things from Boston spread around the walls. (They did recently paint the restaurant and the brighter colored walls help to create a warmer feeling when you are eating there).
We went to Nicolitalia’s last week on Wednesday. I ran my first half marathon that morning (It was a state holiday so we didn’t have work) and we decided I deserved to have pizza for dinner from wherever I wanted. Of course I picked Nicolitalia Pizzeria.
This time we realized we could get two free cannolis if we ordered a large appetizer with our pizza (instead of a small) and of course I would never turn down 5 more mozzarella sticks. I actually don’t think I’ve ever had a cannoli before (so I can’t compare) but it was delicious. We got regular cannolis, so they were filled with the typical riccotta mixture, in the cannoli shell and topped with powdered sugar. They were delicious! They also have a cookies and cream flavor, which I will definitely be trying next time. And you can get them dipped in chocolate. Yum!
So, if you are in the Provo area you and in need of something for dinner, Nicolitalia Pizzeria is definitely the place to go! Besides amazing pizza they also have chicken wings, calzones, salads, pasta, and more!
For those of you in the area – have any of you been to Nicolitalia’s? What did you think?

The restaurant is under new ownership now. In fact my mission president and his wife own it now and they are some amaizing people. It’s in good hands. I don’t live near Provo, but we just happened to be driving through about a couple of weeks ago and stopped by to see if the owners were around, we weren’t but we did end up getting a great lunch. The prices are very reasonable too. If I’d have know about this place when the hubby and I were still in school, we would have eaten there for sure.

How fun that you know them! I do miss Nico because he was so loud, but I am glad that the great food still remains, and I’m sure the new owners are great too!
