If you know me, you know I’m a doughnut loving gal, so while in Portland I had to try out VooDoo Doughnuts of course! (I wish we had had time to try out Blue Star donuts too – next time for sure!)
VooDoo doughnuts have a few inappropriate donuts, and we avoided those, but they have such a fun variety of different flavors, in addition to traditional flavors. For example some of their different kinds of donuts; one covered in fruit loops, mango tango which has mango jelly in the middle and is covered in tang, neapolitan, butterfinger, and more!
We tried a few different ones and they were all delicious! We got the Grape Ape Doughnut, Captain My Captain Doughnut, Old Dirty ___ Doughnut, Bacon Maple Bar Doughnut, Blueberry Cake Doughnut, Memphis Mafia Doughnut, and Ain’t That a Peach Fritter Doughnut.
My aunt suggested the Grape Ape Doughnut, and we were both surprised by how much we liked this one. Its a traditional yeast doughnut, covered in vanilla frosting, then grape flavored powder and sprinkles. It was like grape fun dip powder sprinkled on top. Yum!
We got the Captain My Captain Doughnut in honor of Nate’s brother who loves Captain Crunch cereal. But to be honest, I love Captain Crunch too! This was another yeast doughnut with vanilla frosting, and covered in Captain Crunch cereal. The cereal added a nice crunch to the doughnut and it was really good.
The old dirty b___ doughnut is a raised yeast doughnut with chocolate frosting, topped with crumbled Oreos and drizzled with peanut butter. Oreo and peanut butter is one of my favorite flavor combinations, so I knew I would love this doughnut, and I did! I wish there had been more peanut butter on top, but just the Oreos with the chocolate frosting on top of the doughnut was delicious on its own.
We tried the Bacon Maple Bar Doughnut too. This doughnut is a raised yeast bar doughnut, topped with maple frosting, and bacon of course. Instead of little pieces of bacon on top, the doughnut has two full slices of crispy salty bacon, which was just glorious.
The Blueberry Cake Doughnut is obviously a cake doughnut, stuffed full of blueberries and covered in glaze. It was really good, kind of like a blueberry muffin. But after eating all the other doughnuts first, it wasn’t nearly as sweet as the others, and didn’t seem like anything super special.
The Memphis Mafia Doughnut was the one I was most excited for. Its like a fritter, with chunks of banana fried into the dough, and cinnamon sugar swirled throughout covered in glaze, chocolate frosting, peanut butter, peanuts and chocolate chips. Wowee. The banana flavor, and the peanut butter on top wasn’t super strong, but this doughnut was still so delicious! It was like a lightly flavored banana bread doughnut with glaze frosting on top, and I liked the crunch the peanuts and chocolate chips added too.
Last but not least, the Ain’t That a Peach Fritter Doughnut. This was another fritter, with peach, covered in glaze and topped with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles. This one was so good too! I love peaches and don’t always love fritter doughnuts, but I loved this one!
Sorry I didn’t get more individual shots of each of the doughnuts, hopefully you can tell by the head shot of the box of them (minus the maple bar) what they each look like and how good they all were!
Ps. Remember VooDoo Doughnut only takes cash, so make sure to head to an atm before going!
