Ingredients

  • 1 loaf french bread (about 12 oz)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice up the bread into half inch to 3/4 inch pieces.
  • Put the bread pieces in a medium sized bowl drizzle the olive oil over the top. Toss the bread to coat it in the oil.
  • Combine the parmesan, basil, oregano, parsley and salt in a small bowl. Sprinkle the mixture over the bread and stir to coat it evenly in the seasonings.
  • Spread the croutons evenly in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 10 to 14 minutes, flipping half way through. Bake until the croutons are crisped and lightly golden.
  • Let cool for a few minutes, and enjoy immediately, or store until ready to use.

Notes

  • Day Old Bread - This is the perfect way to use up your bread that has seen better days, and is a few days old.
  • Types of Bread - You want to use a good high quality bread for the best flavor and results, like a loaf of French Bread, or Sour Dough, but even old hamburger buns, or white bread will work if that's what you have on hand.
  • Uniform Cubes - Cut the bread into even sized cubes to make sure the bread bakes evenly, for a nice even crispness.
  • Don't Overlap the Cubes - Don't over crowd the bread pieces on the baking tray or they will not crisp up nicely. Make sure they all have a little space on the sheet, and are in a single layer.
