I believe I have mentioned my love for my newest appliance, my ice cream maker. It also makes sherbet and sorbet, all according to the ingredients you add. Aimee had been inspiring me with so many tasty ice creams, my friend Stephanie Lowell also, and pinterest (wicked, wicked pinterest) and then what happens Costco features an ice cream maker with their coupons and deals this summer; it was a dream come true that I could not pass up. So far I have only used it 3 times, but I have loved every ice cream or sherbet it has produced. I love tasting them fresh from the ice cream maker, so delicious and creamy; and I love eating them after freezing in the freezer for several hours. The only reason I have not made more is because there are only 2 of us at our home eating ice cream and it takes several days to eat through one batch, otherwise I would be trying all kinds of deliciousness.
This particular sherbet was made following Aimee’s instructions for peach sherbet with just a substitution for the fruit. I would imagine you could use your choice of fruit, but some fruits probably need to be diluted with other fruits as part of the base. I think it should be tried with blueberries or pineapple or cantaloupe. What would you like to attempt?
Ingredients:
4 cups strawberries, chopped (you can use prefrozen; partially thawed, or fresh strawberries)
1 fresh or frozen banana
1 cup half and half
1 cup white sugar
Directions:
1. Blend strawberries, banana, and half and half together until mostly creamy but a few banana and strawberry chunks.
2. Add in sugar and blend for a little bit.
3. Pour mixture into your ice cream maker and run for about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on your freezer.
4. Remove sherbet from ice cream maker and place in bowl. Cover.
5. Place in freezer. Freeze for an hour or 2 or overnight depending on how hard you want the sherbet. Remove from freezer a few minutes before serving.
