I love cookies. I mean, there might be something wrong with you if you don’t love cookies, or at least this probably isn’t the right blog for you because I’ve got a mega sweet tooth. These double chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite cookies ever.
The cookies are soft, and chewy, and have such a rich and delicious chocolate flavor. They are easy to make with just a few ingredients – and you probably have most of them in your pantry right now so GO MAKE THEM RIGHT AWAY!
Every time we make them they are gobbled up so quickly because everyone loves them.
I’m telling you, if you like chocolate you will love these cookies. Its like the best chocolate cookie ever. A little like a brownie cookie, fudgy, rich and so delicious.
I will warn you. The cookies are best enjoyed with a giant glass of milk!

1st time making any type of chocolate chip cookies. Cookies came out super tastyqnd very rich in chocolate flavor. Recipe doesn’t specify what type of cocoa powder to use. Being a novice at baking this is important info. I ventured into the baking section of the supermarket and found myself staring at the many options of cocoa powder. Finally I went with Hersheys 100% Cocoa powder naturally sweetened and used Ghirardelli semi sweet chocolate chips. My boys thought the cookies were too chocolatey but perfect with a cup of milk. My little neighbor thought she was in chocolate heaven. Needless to say, I will make these again. To me…not bad for being a novice at the world of baking. Thanks for sharing!
Aimee Berrett says
I’m glad you, your boys and your neighbor, liked them Idida – actually you can use different types of cocoa powder depending on your preference. I often by Heshey’s cocoa as well – they also have a special dark chocolate powder as well, but I prefer the regular! And definitely served with a big glass of milk!

made these…but with all four cups of flour, they were crumbs. i pressed them hard into balls with my hands, but it was rather annoying. as a result the didn’t really spread in the oven, which wasn’t that big of a deal but yeah 🙂 they still taste ok, i would just suggest not pouring all the flour in at one time, but cup by cup till it isn’t too sticky. thats my two cents 😉
Aimee Berrett says
I’m sorry, did you put 4 cups of flour? The recipe calls for 2 cups! I definitely do add my flour slowly, so I’ll add a note to the recipe for others to do that in the future
Ella says
Loved these. Added 1tbsp brewed espresso to the dough. Flattened and pushed chocolate chips on the top before baking. 7min they felt under done out of oven but we’re perfect brownie texture when cooled. Mixed a bit more brewed espresso , 1 cup chocolate chips and a bit of heavy cream in the micro to make espresso chocolate ganache and drizzled it on cookies. Awesome!!!

Just made these for the 3rd time. They are wonderful and have become my go-to cookie. My mom even asked me to bake her some. For the record, I used a tablespoon ice cream scoop and got 38 cookies.
Aimee Berrett says
So glad they are one of your favorites Lee!! Great to know how many you got 🙂
Kim says
I just made these cookies but used peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips. They basically have no flavor at all! So bummed.
Aimee Berrett says
So sorry you didnt think they had enough flavor Kim! I’ve had a lot of people make them with almost nothing but complements!
Ann says
No info that I could see on how many cookies this makes.
Also, should this be unsalted butter? No description other then “butter”
Aimee Berrett says
I’ll have to count next time I make these to see how many it makes. I’m guessing about 2 dozen. And I always use unsalted butter, but you could lower the salt amount slightly if you prefer salted.
Zainab says
Can i make it without coco powder ??
Aimee Berrett says
Are you wanting chocolate chip cookies instead of double chocolate? The cocoa powhere is what makes the cookie base chocolatey. I’d suggest other recipes if you want a cookie base with melted chocolate chips instead, or we have plain chocolate chip if that is what you are looking for
Laura says
Just made these to take to work tomorrow. I had to try one of course, don’t want to take anything in that’s inferior. I have just one thing to say OMG! These are fantastic. I made a double batch & used semi sweet & milk chocolate chips. I am thinking they won’t last long. Definitely will be making these again.
Aimee Berrett says
So glad you love them! Hope your coworkers do too!

i owed someone cake and this recipe helped
Kristin says
Ok, I am glad to see that I am not the only one who followed the directions to a T and they turned out in crumbs as well. There is no way that a half cup of butter is all you need….I would add a whole cup next time on mine and see how that works because I literally had crumbs flying all over my kitchen.
Aimee Berrett says
Kristen, sorry it didn’t work out for you. It is a thicker dough, but it shouldn’t turn out crumbly. Let me know if you try it again with more butter, but I think it might be a little oily.
Lilly says
Can I use wheat flour for this? It’s the only flour I have right now
Aimee Berrett says
Wheat flour is a lot denser than white flour so its usually not good to do a 1 for 1 substitution because your cookies will be really thick and dense. If you want to try I would use a little less wheat flour than the recipe calls for, maybe try 1 3/4 of a cup instead of 2 cups, but I don’t know for sure how it will turn out. Let me know if you try it.
Emma says
Mine terned out great!! At first they weren’t falling so great when I put them in the oven, when they had 2 minutes left I took a fork and made a x through them; they terned out yummy thanks.
Aimee Berrett says
Great idea! I’ve flattened mine before putting them in the oven, or slightly when they’re almost done baking and that’s helped me too 🙂
Alyssa says
I made thus but the batter is very crumbly and doesn’t stick together… Also falls apart and crumbles after being baked. I double checked I had everything right. HELP???
Heather says
Did you use unsalted butter?
Aimee Berrett says
Yes I did. I always use unsalted so I can decide how much salt is put in exactly. Thanks for asking!
Jane Carol says
These cookies were absolutely delicious although I need to work on their appearance. They stayed the original shape even after being baked, so they looked like lumps of coal! I’m definitely making them again….any ideas regarding why they wouldn’t have spread like other cookies? Thanks…yummy recipe!
Aimee Berrett says
They are a little denser than normal chocolate chip cookies, you could try a little less flour to see if that helps at all.
sabrina says
Thanks for the recipe. Made them today and they’re very good. Only thing is that I’d like them to flatten a little more.
Danielle says
Hi, are these cookies soft?
Aimee Berrett says
They are soft cookies, should be similar to a chocolate chip cookie

Hi Aimee,
when I replied the last time I used my iPad but now I’ve seen that the comment doesn’t appear yet… I’m not sure if you received it so, maybe it went astray!?
I wrote something like:
“Oooooooops, you can’t imagine how blushed my cheeks are right now! I didn’t read close enough, I’m so sorry that I call you with your daughter’s name!
German is a very difficult language so never mind!”
Aimee Berrett says
Oh sorry that you’re last comment didn’t come through. I’m actually the daughter. My mom and I both blog together, so Ellen is my mother’s name. I am Aimee. These cookies, however are ones that I made 🙂
