Homemade orange zest syrup takes your favorite maple syrup to another level with fresh squeezed orange juice and orange zest
Sunday morning was relaxing today. I had time to make breakfast, more than the delicious smoothies or yogurt and granola I usually enjoy for breakfast. Today I whipped up pancakes, pancakes with homemade syrup. But not just any homemade syrup, orange zest syrup.
Pin this orange zest syrup for later!
This orange zest syrup was so easy to make and just took minutes to have ready for a warm syrup with homemade pancakes. I always love warm syrup on my pancakes or waffles. Even if I only use store bought syrup I will always warm it first. While growing up, my mom always made fresh syrup for our Saturday morning pancakes. She prepared a simple syrup with sugar, water, vanilla, and mapleine (an artificial maple flavoring) true it wasn’t real maple syrup but it tasted like such to me. I loved Saturday morning for this very reason; wonderful fluffy pancakes and warm syrup. I was personally distraught the first time I slept over at a friend’s home and the Saturday pancake breakfast was served with COLD store bought syrup. I almost didn’t know what to do and couldn’t imagine actually eating pancakes this way. I actually may not have eaten the pancakes. Believe me when I tell you I felt so sorry for my friend’s situation surviving somehow without WARM syrup. I know now how much of a treat it was for our family.
And now you too can enjoy a warm syrup that is easy, quick, and delicious. Just set some sugar with water on the stove to dissolve and bring to a light boil for about 30 seconds, all while you are whipping up your favorite pancake recipe. Add the flavoring, orange zest and juice at the very end and serve warm.
A deliciously warm orange zest syrup that will have you licking your plate for the very last drop.

Is it weird that I want to just drink this? It looks so yummy! I want to make some french toast and this syrup. My family would love it!

No, it is not weird. Been there. I just pour lots extra on my pancake, french toast, and then use a soup or my tongue to get the extra. I hope you like it as much as we did.
