Ingredients

For the Strawberry French Toast Casserole:

  • 14 oz French Bread loaf
  • 5 large eggs (beaten)
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 2 TBS vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries

For the Streusel Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (cut into pieces)

For Garnishing:

  • strawberries
  • buttermilk syrup
  • whipped cream

Instructions

For the Strawberry French Toast Casserole:

  • Spray a 9x13 baking pan with nonstick spray.
  • Cut up the bread loaf into 1 inch pieces, and spread it throughout the baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the eggs, and milk.
  • Add the sugar, orange zest, vanilla and cinnamon to the egg mixture, and stir them together. Pour the mixture over the bread.
  • Add the strawberries in between the pieces of the bread, pushing them into the pieces so they aren't sticking out.
  • Cover the pan with plastic wrap and stick it in the fridge for one hour, or overnight.

For the Streusel Topping:

  • Add the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt to a small bowl, and stir them together.
  • Cut the butter into the flour mixture with a couple forks, or pastry cutter until it is in pea sized pieces.
  • Place it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge overnight.

For the French Toast Casserole:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the casserole from the fridge while the oven is preheating.
  • Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the top of the French toast.
  • Bake the casserole for 45 to 55 minutes, or until hot throughout.

For Garnishing:

  • Serve warm with syrup, more strawberries, and whipped cream.
