- 2 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 TBS orange zest
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Zest one or two of your oranges to get about 1 TBS of zest, set it aside in a small bowl. Juice the oranges, until you have about 2.5 cups of fresh orange juice. Place both in the fridge until needed. 2 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice , 1 TBS orange zest
Add the sugar, and water to a small sauce pan and heat over medium, stirring often, until the sugar is dissolved. 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup water
Mix the orange juice, orange zest, and sugar water in a bowl and place it in the fridge to chill for at least 1 to 2 hours, until cool.
Pour the mixture through a strainer to remove orange zest pieces.
Pour the orange mixture into the ice cream maker and churn according to the machine's directions, about 25 to 30 minutes for a slushy texture.
Scoop the mixture into a 2QT container and freeze for 6 hours, up to overnight. The longer it freezes, the more solid it will get. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes, to soften, and enjoy!
