This red white and blue cake is a delicious tie dye cake topped with an easy buttercream frosting, perfect for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July!

This red white and blue cake is a delicious and beautiful one layer cake that is easy to make, too! Its a delicious white cake split into three separate batters, to make it red white and blue, then topped with a white buttercream frosting, and sprinkles for a super fun Patriotic cake!
For this cake you’ll make a simple white cake batter. I used almond and vanilla extract because I love those flavors together, but if you don’t like almond extract you could leave that one out too. You’ll then divide the batter into 3 separate bowls evenly. Add food coloring into two of the bowls to make one a bright red/pink for the red part, and one a bright blue for the blue part. Leave the other part white for the white part of the cake. You’ll drop spoonfuls of batter into your prepared baking pan and then your cake is ready to go. Like so –>
Bake the cake up. Make the frosting, and frost it. Top it with red white and blue sprinkles and your cake is ready to serve. Everyone will love how delicious the cake is to eat, but its also fun!
My son helped me make this cake, and he still randomly will ask me when we can make another “rainbow” cake. Its so fun to let your kids help in the kitchen! And this cake could be made into any color combination you want!
For this cake you’ll need mostly pantry items, but I recommend using Horizon Organic products as much as you can. If you can find them there is Horizon Organic Products; butter, Organic Cultured Sour Cream, Whole Milk, Eggs (you’ll only use egg whites to keep the cake more white 😉 ) Horizon Organic Products contain no GMOs, no antibiotics, pesticides, no added hormones. Their cows are happily raised in pastures. Their products are delicious, with wholesome ingredients, and exactly what you and your kids bodies need. Full of calcium, protein, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and potassium. You can find Horizon Organic products at many different grocery stores near you!
This tie dye cake is so festive and fun for Memorial Day or Fourth of July! You need to make this for a barbecue or potluck and everyone will be coming back for seconds!
Some of my other favorite red white and blue desserts that I think you would love too: Red white and blue giant sugar cookie cake, red white and blue mini cheesecakes and red white and blue strawberries!

I tried this and it is great! But I want to make sure, do you really mean 1/4 tsp of sour cream? Or should it be 1/4 cup?
Aimee says
Oops! You’re right, 1/4 cup sour cream! I edited the recipe to show that

So fun! It reminds me of the colorful rainbow cake I made many years ago for a party. I need to bake another or at least have a party to make one for.
I glad Colby had fun making the cake.
