These Grinch Christmas Tree Cookies are inspired by Dr. Suess’s book How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They are a soft and chewy sugar cookie that is colored green and decorated with a “snow” glaze, and a red heart! They’re such a cute and delicious Christmas cookie everyone will love.
These cookies start with a super simple sugar cookie base, and you end up with thick, soft, and chewy sugar cookies, with hardly any work, and in hardly any time.
How fun would it be to enjoy these darling cookies while watching one of the versions of the Grinch movies? Or maybe a marathon where you watch both versions of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Grinch.
They’d also be great for a Christmas party, Christmas cookie exchange, or treat plates you might deliver to your friends or neighbors.
How to make Grinch Christmas Tree Cookies?
These Grinch Christmas Tree Cookies are a basic sugar cookie recipe, colored and decorated to represent cookies from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They start out like any other sugar cookie recipe, first cream together the sugar and butter until it’s nice and fluffy.
Then add in the half and half, vanilla and eggs and stir until just combined. Then add in all the dry ingredients, and the food coloring. Mix it together until you have a nice and thick cookie dough.
Cover the dough and chill it in the fridge for at least 1 hour, up to 24 hours.
Roll out the cookie dough on a lightly floured surface to be about 1/4 inch thick. Then cut the dough out into Christmas trees using a Christmas tree cookie cutter. Bend the top of the cookie down toward one of the sides to create a curl.
Place the cookies onto a lined cookie sheet, at least 1inch apart. Bake the cookies until the middles are just set, and the sides might turn lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely.
Make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. then use a spoon to add some snowy glaze onto the tips of the cookies.
Melt the candy melts in the microwave until you can stir them smooth, then add them to a small bag, and snip off the end. Then use them to draw small hearts onto the cookies. Let it cool and harden, then enjoy the cookies!
Tips for making Grinch Christmas Tree Cookies?
- Make sure to use gel food coloring. It will help so you don’t have to add too much food coloring to effect the texture of the cookie dough/cookies.
- You can choose what shade of green you want these cookies to be based on what green food coloring you get. I used a neon green food coloring.
- These Grinch Christmas tree cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- The cookies can also be frozen (I like to flash freeze them first, then put them in a freezer safe container to prevent them from sticking to each other) for up to 6 months. Let them thaw at room temperature when you want to enjoy them.
These Grinch Christmas Tree Cookies are such a fun Christmas cookie! They’re adorable and delicious and such a fun cookie to enjoy this Christmas season.
