How to make Orange Sorbet
Step 1: Juice the Oranges. Zest one or two of the oranges to get about 1 TBS of orange juice. Then juice the oranges until you have 3 cups of fresh orange juice. Place in the fridge until needed.
Step 2: Make a simple syrup. Add the water and granulated sugar to a medium pot and heat over medium, stirring often until the sugar is dissolved.
Step 3: Mix everything together. Mix the orange juice, and orange zest into the sugar water. Let it cool at room temperature, or in the fridge until no longer warm.
Step 4: Churn. Pour the orange mixture into the ice cream maker and churn according to the manufactures directions. Mine is about 25 to 30 minutes. The mixture will be a bit slushy now. Scoop the mixture into a 2QT container and freeze for 6 hours, up to overnight to harden. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to soften a bit to scoop and serve.
Tips and Tricks:
- Fresh Squeezed Juice – Freshly squeezed orange juice will result in the best flavor. Avoid using store bough juices with preservatives especially.
- Add Alcohol – Add about 1 TBS of orange liqueur or vodka to enhance the flavor, and keep the sorbet at a soften consistency.
Storage Instructions
Store the orange sorbet in an a airtight freezer safe container in the freezer for up to 2 months. Place a piece of plastic wrap directly over the surface of the sorbet before sealing to prevent ice crystals from forming.
Let the sorbet sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to make it soften a bit, and easier to scoop.

Orange Sorbet
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 TBS orange zest
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Zest one or two of your oranges to get about 1 TBS of zest, set it aside in a small bowl. Juice the oranges, until you have about 2.5 cups of fresh orange juice. Place both in the fridge until needed. 2 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice , 1 TBS orange zest
- Add the sugar, and water to a small sauce pan and heat over medium, stirring often, until the sugar is dissolved. 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup water
- Mix the orange juice, orange zest, and sugar water in a bowl and place it in the fridge to chill for at least 1 to 2 hours, until cool.
- Pour the mixture through a strainer to remove orange zest pieces.
- Pour the orange mixture into the ice cream maker and churn according to the machine's directions, about 25 to 30 minutes for a slushy texture.
- Scoop the mixture into a 2QT container and freeze for 6 hours, up to overnight. The longer it freezes, the more solid it will get. Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes, to soften, and enjoy!

Strawberry Orange Sorbet
Ingredients:
3 cups ripe strawberries (hulled)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 TBS lemon juice
zest of 1 large orange
candied citron (chopped)
Directions:
1. Puree your strawberries in a blender.
2. Mix in your powdered sugar and lemon juice.
3. Add orange zest.
4. Place 1 loaf pan in freezer for at least 10 minutes to get cold.
5. Put the strawberry puree, sugar, lemon juice and zest in your ice cream maker.
6. Freeze according to your directions.
7. Once finished sorbet is finished, remove loaf pan and add the sorbet into the loaf pan and mix in the candied citron.
8. Cover with plastic wrap, seal, and place in freezer for 2 hours or more.
9. To serve, remove from freezer for about 5 minutes to soften, then dish up into individual bowls.
