This red white and blue trifle is loaded with layers of fresh strawberries, blueberries, angel food cake, pudding, and whipped cream for a delicious and beautiful patriotic dessert!
I love making red white and blue treats this time of year. I love the patriotic colors, and I especially love being able to use so many delicious fresh berries in my recipes too.
This red white and blue trifle is simple to make, and it’s the perfect summer dessert. The red and blue berries, with the fresh whipped cream and angel food cake give it the perfect festive feel for your upcoming Memorial Day or Fourth of July celebrations. But really It would be good all year round too.
It’s light, and refreshing, and has the perfect flavors for summer. It’s a no bake dessert, so you don’t have to heat up your kitchen, and you can stay nice and cool on a hot day. It only takes about 30 minutes to make.
How to make Red White and Blue Trifle?
In a medium sized bowl, combine your dry pudding mix and milk and whisk together for about two minutes. Set aside till you need to layer everything together. Then make your homemade whipped cream, whip your heavy cream mixed with sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip it up until it forms nice stiff peaks.
Cut up your angel food cake into nice bite sized squares. Cut the tops off your strawberries and make sure your berries are rinsed and dried. Now you’re ready to assemble your trifle.
First you’ll layer your angel food cake, add about half of the cut up pieces to the bottom of the trifle dish. Then top with a layer of strawberries. Spread half of the pudding evenly over the strawberries. Top with a layer of blueberries. Top blueberries with a layer of whipped cream. Then repeat another layer of angel food cake, strawberries, pudding, blueberries, and whipped cream. Then decorate the top in a pretty pattern with any extra berries you have. (I’ll be honest, the star shape took longer than I though, a circle of strawberries with blueberries in the middle would be really pretty too).
Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours until you are ready to serve. Trifle is best enjoyed the same day it is made.
This red white and blue trifle is the perfect no bake summer dessert. It’s beautiful, delicious and so perfect for a summer barbecue!

I made this Trifle Red White and Blue cake today for a July 4th party! It was so easy to make and fun to decorate the top with whipping cream, blueberries & strawberries! I added just a touch of green with a few leaves around the top. I love it!

That sounds so pretty. What type of leaves did you use for the green? I love hearing your thoughts, thanks for sharing.

How far in advance can you make this? Should I make it pretty close to serve time?
Aimee says
The cake will soften more, but you should be able to make it about 24 hours in advanced.
