How to make a Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish
Step 1: Make the Cream Cheese Filling. Add the softened cream cheese to a medium sized bowl and beat it with an electric hand mixer, or stand mixer, until smooth. Then add in the powdered sugar, and vanilla extract and beat them together until smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Prepare the Strawberries. Slice the Strawberries, and mix them in a small bowl with a little sugar, to coat them all over.
Step 3: Prepare the Puff Pastry. Unwrap the thawed puff pastry and cut it in half, then into 3 pieces on each side, on the folded lines. Lightly score each piece with a border about 1/2 inch in from the edge of the rectangle. Be sure not to cut all the way through.
Step 4: Assemble the Danishes. Scoop a heaping Tablespoon of the sweetened cream cheese into the center of the pastry. Spread the cream cheese around covering the dough up to the score line. Top the cream cheese with a few strawberry slices. Brush the egg wash on the edges of the pastries.
Step 5: Bake the Pastries. Add the pastries to a lined baking sheet, if they’re not already there. Brush the egg wash on the edges of the pastries. Bake for about 18 to 22 minutes, or until the pastry is golden. Remove from the oven and let the pastries cool for about 20 minutes.
Step 6: Drizzle with Icing. Whisk together the powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Drizzle the icing over the top of the pastries, and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks:
- Egg Wash – The egg wash will give your pastry a nice golden, and glossy finish, so don’t forget it.
- Lemony Twist – Add a little lemon zest to your cream cheese filling, about 1 teaspoon, and use lemon juice in your icing drizzle for a fun summery flavor.
- Double the Recipe – This recipe makes enough for 6 pastries, if you need more for a brunch event double the recipe. The great thing about that is then you use 1 box of Puff Pastry, and 1 package of cream cheese. Double all ingredients.
Storage Instructions
These Strawberry Danishes are best enjoyed fresh the day they are baked, but you can store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat them until warm for the best results.
This Strawberry and Cream Cheese Danish is such a delightful combination of flavors, and they are sure to brighten any breakfast or brunch table!
