How to make M&M Cookies?
- Cream together the butter and sugars for about 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture is light in color, and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs and vanilla extract and stir them into the mixture until just combined.
- Add in the dry ingredients; flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt and stir it together until you have a nice soft cookie dough.
- Add in the chocolate chips and fold them into the dough until they are evenly mixed.
- Scoop the cookie dough into 2 or 3 TBS portions (mine photographed are about 2.5 TBS) and roll them into balls. Place them about 3 inches apart on a lined cookie sheet.
- Bake the cookies until they are just golden on the edges, and the top is barely set. (The cookies will keep cooking on the cookie sheet out of the oven). Let the cookies sit on the cookie sheet for 5 to 10 minutes, then carefully transfer them to a cooling rack to continue cooling, or enjoy immediately!
Tips and Tricks:
- Make the cookies pretty: Don’t forget to add a few m&ms and chocolate chips to the top of the cookie balls right before baking to make the cookies extra pretty. Add a lot because the chocolate candies will spread out as the cookie bakes.
- Do not over bake the cookies – Cook the cookies until the edges start to firm and turn golden colored. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them finish baking on the cookie sheet outside of the oven. This will give you the perfect soft and chewy cookies
- Lots of chocolate: You can choose if you want to make these cookies with all M&Ms, or half M&Ms and half chocolate chips.
- Seasonal: These cookies are so fun to make for celebrating different holidays. Try red and green m&ms for Christmas, or red, white and blue for Fourth of July cookies, etc.
- Chill the dough: If your cookies end up flat you can chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes and then scoop them up to bake. That should help the cookies hold their shape, but shouldn’t be necessary.
How to store the M & M Cookies ?
After the cookies have cooled, place them in an airtight container with a lid for up to 4 days. The cookies can be carefully stacked in the container.
How to freeze cookies?
You can freeze these cookies in their cookie dough form or the baked cookies.
To freeze the cookie dough, scoop the cookie dough into balls and place it onto a lined baking sheet. Put the tray in the freezer until the cookie balls are firm, then transfer them to a ziptop bag or airtight freeze container. You can freeze the cookie dough balls for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to bake them, add them to a lined cookie sheet and bake them from frozen, with just a couple of minutes added to the baking time, as needed.
You can also freeze the already baked cookies, let them cool completely then place them carefully in a freezer safe bag or container. These can be frozen for up to 3 months. Let them thaw at room temperature for a couple hours before enjoying them.
These homemade m&m cookies are the perfect batch of cookies that look just like you’ll get from your favorite bakery. They’re soft, chewy, and have the perfect texture and flavor – all without chilling the dough, so you can be enjoying your homemade cookies in no time.
