Ingredients Needed
This is a quick overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this Halloween Seven Layer Dip Recipe. Specific measurements and full recipe instructions are in the printable recipe card below.
- Refried Beans : The hearty base of the dip, I don’t always use the whole can.
- Sour Cream: For layering, and piping on a spider web on top.
- Taco Seasoning: Mix a little with the sour cream layer for the best flavor
- Chunky Salsa: Pick your favorite level of spice, or even use Pico de Gallo. Scoop the salsa chunks on top leaving the liquid behind, we don’t want it softening the lower layers.
- Guacamole: Homemade guacamole, or store bought works great.
- Shredded Cheese: Pick your favorite cheese, cheddar, a Mexican blend, Colby Jack, or whatever you like
- Diced Tomatoes: Adds a little extra color and flavor
- Green Onions: Adds a nice fresh flavor and pop of color
- Black Olives: I love them, and love making a couple cute spiders out of them.
- Tortilla Chips: Needed for enjoying the dip. Grab your favorite, or check out the cute Halloween chips available this time of year!

How to Make this Spider Web Seven Layer Dip

Step 1: Mix the Sour Cream and Taco Seasoning. Mix them in a small bowl and whisk together until combined. Set aside until needed.

Step 2: Spread the Layers. Spread the refried beans down first covering the bottom of a round serving dish (a pie pan works great). Spoon the sour cream on top of the refried beans. Spread the salsa over the sour cream. Spread the guacamole over the salsa.

Step 3: Add the Toppings. Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the edge of the dish, covering 1-2 inches. Top that with diced tomatoes, olive slices, and green onions.

Step 4: Add the Spider Web. Add the extra sour cream to a small ziplock bag, snip the corner off and pipe a spider web design on top of the dip. First I like to do a + sign, then an x over that. Then connect each line in a curved design to make a spider web. Top with a couple olive spiders by cutting an olive in half for the body, and using half olive slices for the legs. Serve immediately, or chill for a few hours before enjoying.
Tips and Tricks:
- Use a Clear Glass Dish: Then you can see all the layers from the side, which makes this extra pretty!
- Make Ahead of Time: If you’re making this ahead of time, make sure to cover it tightly with plastic wrap (especially if you’re using fresh guac, we don’t want it turning brown) and add the garnishes when you’re ready to serve it so the design stays nice, and nothing gets watery or wilty.
- Serve With: Serve with tortilla chips, sliced bell peppers, celery sticks, or other crackers.

Storage Instructions
Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days. It’s best on the first day, and the guacamole may brown over time, but it will still be save to eat.

This Spider Web Seven Layer Dip is the perfect mix of fun and flavor for your next Halloween party! It’s easy to make, and I promise it’ll be the first thing to go at your Halloween party.

Spider Web Seven Layer Dip
Ingredients
For the Seven Layer Dip:
- 16 oz Refried Beans
- 1 cup Sour Cream
- 1/2 TBS Taco Seasoning
- 1 cup Chunky Salsa (We don't want a watery salsa)
- 1 cup Guacamole
- 1 cup Shredded Mexican Cheese
- 1/4 cup Diced Tomatoes
- 2 TBS Diced Green Onions
- 1/4 cup Sour Cream
- 1/4 cup Black Olives
Instructions
- Spread the refried beans evenly in the bottom of a shallow round dish, or pie plate. 16 oz Refried Beans
- Mix the Sour Cream and Taco Seasoning in a small bowl. Spoon the sour cream over the beans in an even layer. 1 cup Sour Cream, 1/2 TBS Taco Seasoning
- Spoon the salsa over the top of the sour cream, leaving the extra liquid behind. 1 cup Chunky Salsa
- Spread the guacamole evenly over the salsa. 1 cup Guacamole
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese all around the edge of the dish, 1-2 inches around the edge. 1 cup Shredded Mexican Cheese
- Sprinkle the tomatoes and green onion over the cheese. 1/4 cup Diced Tomatoes, 2 TBS Diced Green Onions
For the Spider Web Design:
- Spoon the remaining sour cream into a small ziplock bag. Snip off a tiny corner, and pipe first a large plus sign in the middle of the cheese, then an x on top of that. Then connect the lines with rounded lines between each one making the spider web design. 1/4 cup Sour Cream
- Cut an olive in half for the spiders body. Slice the olives into thin slices and cut them in half to make spider legs. Place a body with four "legs" on each side. You can add 1-3 spiders on your dish, whatever will fit. 1/4 cup Black Olives
- Add more olive slices over the cheese as garnish.
- Serve immediately, or store in the fridge for a few hours until needed.
