This homemade maple syrup recipe is so easy and way better than store-bought syrup. You’ll want to pour it on top of all your pancakes, waffles, and French toast stacks.
I grew up with my mom or dad making this homemade maple flavored syrup all the time. I don’t think they ever bought pancake syrup from the store. We’d eat it warm poured over the top of our stacks of breakfast favorites. You might also love our homemade buttermilk syrup, or caramel syrup, or strawberry sauce on yours.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, start your day right and you just know you’ll have a good day. Start your day with a stack of fluffy pancakes or waffles, topped with this homemade maple syrup, a side of bacon, and eggs and you know your off to a good start.
Of course, you can get pure maple syrup at the store straight from maple trees, but that can be a splurge, so I promise this homemade maple flavored syrup is the next best thing.
The Best Maple Syrup
- Real Maple Flavor – Use a pure Maple extract like McCormick’s or Watkins Maple Extract that has real maple in it to give this syrup a real, intense maple flavor.
- No artificial additives – This recipe is only 4 ingredients, granulated sugar, water, maple extract, and vanilla extract – no high fructose corn syrup, or other ingredients you can’t pronounce to be found.
- So easy – this homemade syrup is such an easy recipe to make with simple ingredients. It takes less than 10 minutes, so you’ll want to make it often!
Homemade Maple Syrup Ingredients
- Granulated Sugar – white sugar will keep the flavor focus on the maple.
- Water – to help dissolve the sugar
- Maple Extract – I really recommend using pure maple extract
- Vanilla Extract
How to make Maple Pancake Syrup
- Cook the sugar and the water in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring often, until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a low boil, and let it continue to cook for another a few minutes to thicken slightly.
- Add in the extracts. Remove from the heat and stir in the maple and vanilla extract.
- Enjoy warm on your favorite breakfast foods.
Tips and Tricks:
- Add brown sugar – Instead of just granulated sugar, try 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar for a richer, and more caramelly flavor.
- Pure Maple Extract – I cannot stress how much better the flavor is if you use pure maple extract for this homemade syrup. You can use Mapeline if that is all you can get your hands on.
- Thick or thin – If you want a thinner syrup, cook your syrup less, if you want it thicker cook it a little longer.
How to store Homemade Maple Syrup?
If you have leftover syrup, pour it into glass jars or airtight container, or tightly with plastic wrap. You can store it in the fridge for up to 1 month. When you want to enjoy it again, microwave at half power until it is warm and enjoy.
Making homemade pancake syrup is such a delicious addition to your next breakfast. It’s the perfect way to elevate your mornings and bring the best flavor to your favorite breakfast dishes.
