Microwave Fudge is the perfect homemade candy for beginners and experts alike, with only 3 ingredients, no thermometer, you get an easy and delicious rich chocolate fudge!
Today I have another great holiday treat for you. This fudge is a little simpler than the recipe I shared with you at the beginning of the week, because its only 3 ingredients and its made in the microwave!
All you need to make this fudge is chocolate chips, butter, and sweetened condensed milk. You can leave the butter out if you like, it makes the top a bit more greasy.
This chocolate fudge recipe is the perfect holiday treat to make for your neighbors because its so easy and also delicious. Your neighbors will also love if you make this microwave peanut brittle recipe for them!
Another great thing about this is you can add any mix-ins you want to the fudge, you can add your favorite candy bars, cookies, nuts, or top it with sprinkles or melted caramels.
You can make this fudge in a traditional baking dish, or another fun way to make it is to spread the fudge out inside of cookie cutters and wrap it up in a cute little bag and give to your neighbors that way. Its a delicious edible gift, plus they’ll have a cute cookie cutter to use later!

My mom started making this recipe back in the 80’s in one of those first huge microwaves and made it every year until her passing. I keep up the tradition and thank you for posting it as she never wrote it down & the recipe manual is long gone. Merry Christmas y’all!
Robert Church says
Love make it fore Christmas

I just realized I don’t have a glass 9 x 9 pan, I have bigger glass casserole dishes and 8 x 8 pan but that’s metal so you can’t microwave that. I could have doubled it for the bigger casserole dish but don’t have enough ingredients to double it. Any suggestions?
Aimee says
You’ll microwave another bowl and transfer the fudge into a lined pan. 8×8 will make the fudge a little thicker, or a 9×13 will make it thin. It probably go with the 8inch, but you can choose 🙂
Susie says
I’ve made this years before (in an old microwave). But this time it came out oily eventhough I know I mixed it enough. Could it be my microwave is too powerful now so that it overcooked it? It never did mix smooth. And now there’s enough oil on top to drain off. Never had that happen before. Any suggestions??
Aimee says
I’ve heard a lot of suspicious that butter is different this year, but don’t know if that’s true – maybe different chocolate chips? Maybe try blotting some of the oil with a paper towel? I’ve had mine look a little greasy but then when it sets it soaks it in or something, and is gone.
Joanne says
how long can I keep this fudge. wanted to gift it for christmas
Aimee says
It should stay good in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
Anon says
How am I meant to get it out of the glass dish?! It’s wedged in there and won’t come off the bottom
Aimee says
Oh no, sorry! If that happens, once I scrape one piece out messily I can usually get the rest out neatly.
Courtney says
I used a pizza cutter and it popped out pretty good.
Rita Lujan says
Hi Ellen and Aimee,
I just wanted to let you know that I love your recipes, and appreciate your blog, and sharing the love from your kitchen to mine 🥰
Elizabeth says
How long does this take to set/ harden up? Do you put it in the fridge or leave it out on the countertop?
Aimee says
I usually stick it in the fridge so it’ll set faster. It still may take about an hour or two in the fridge

Fabulous tasting fudge!! Wow, have made 3 times so far in the last 2 weeks… will use this recipe forever!

I teach cooking at a summer camp, I made this recipe kids loved it. I folded 1 cup of fruity pebbles cereal into the melted mix then topped the pan with 1 cup of cereal as well. Delicious 😋
Aimee says
That sounds so tasty! Glad you loved it!!
Holly says
I was skeptical that this could be done well in a microwave. Nice to be wrong!

Followed recipe to a T & mine was like soup 🥺
Aimee says
Uh oh. Did you use normal chocolate chips? Chocolate should harden after it cools down. If you didn’t already, try sticking it in the fridge. But otherwise, I’m sorry it didn’t work for you.
Paula Ericson says
What do you mean by “normal chocolate chips “. Am I supposed to use semi sweet chips or real chocolate chocolate chips?
Aimee says
I’m not sure what you mean by semi sweet or real, but I just meant actual chocolate chips, not candy melts, or a melted chocolate bar. I haven’t tried the recipe with those
Michelle says
Aimee, I assume you’re the mother or the daughter in this group and how do you not know the difference between semi sweet and chocolate chip chip how do you not know the difference between them and your you’ve got a website
Aimee says
You can buy semi sweet chocolate chips, or milk chocolate chips, or white chips, or butterscotch chips, etc. – but there is nothing that will say “chocolate chip chip”. You want real chocolate, but it can be real milk chocolate chips, or real semi sweet chocolate chips. You do not want to buy melting wafers or candy melts.

Aimee,
When you say line the pan before you pour the chocolate mixture into the 9×9 pan,
“What do you line it with?” I’ve looked at other recipe’s and one says parchment paper, another says aluminum foil? I also wonder about coating the inside with a soft butter? if you could give me advice I would appreciate it. First time for me to make Fudge! And love it soooo!!
I appreciate this,
Joe B.
Aimee says
Sorry about that, I usually use parchment paper, but foil should work okay too. The nice thing with lining it, is I recommend leaving a little hanging over the edges, then when it is set you can lift it right up out of the pan, which makes it really easy to cut up into pieces. Hope you enjoy!

Can I use the microwave recipe for making white fudge?
Aimee says
Yes! Or look at our Christmas swirl fudge recipe and you can leave out the food coloring if you want. But it’s the same recipe ( I leave butter out of that one, you can do either way)
Tami says
When making the peanut butter fudge is it possible to substitute butter chips for white chocolate chips
Aimee says
Are you asking about peanut butter chips? I don’t know what butter chips are…
Renee M Brewton says
Excellent recipe. Taste very much like my mother’s old fashion creamy fudge. She always put marshmallow fluff in hers. I added 2 Cup as to the recipe and swirled in peanut butter on top. It’s wonderful. Thank you for such a simple less complicated fudge.
Jackie Lamantia says
Hi. I apparently made a big mistake. I didn’t have condensed milk. I used 2% 11 oz, 12 oz milk chocolate, dash of vanilla and small jar of marshmellow cream and 1 1/ cups sugar. Help. It’ll probably make delicious hot chocolate. Is there any way to fix?
Aimee says
Oops. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a way to salvage it into fudge at this point, regular milk is way to thin and this only works as a microwave fudge with condensed milk. It sounds like you were trying to make regular fudge in the microwave instead. I’d recommend this recipe https://lmld.org/turtle-fudge next time (made on the stove) which has similar ingredients, but you need evaporated milk instead of regular milk. I don’t think 2% will ever work for fudge.
JanetBurgart says
I’ve made your fudge you don’t specify dk choc, semi sweet, or milk choc. I used semi sweet as I like that taste. Is one better than another
Aimee says
I like milk chocolate the best, but any can be used depending on your preferences
Megan says
Will adding some creamy peanut butter change the way this sets up? I’ve made it for several years and it’s a huge hit and delicious…I just think peanut butter would be awesome, if it will set up correctly.
Aimee says
It may soften it a bit, but you should be fine adding peanut butter. I’d eliminate the butter and add about 1/2 cup or so. Let me know how it goes!
kandye says
It tasted great but was my first time making it,everyone loved it but for some reason mine did`nt firm up as it should of any suggestions.
Thank you so much
Aimee says
Did you add the full 3 cups of chocolate chips? There should be no issues with it firming up if you did, but sometimes you have to put it in the fridge to help it get there quicker.
Arlene D. says
I had 23 ozs of chocolate chips aa each package holds 11,5 ozs. I used 4 T butter as two didn’t seem to be enough. Four wasn’t enough. My can of sweerened condensed could have been bigger. All in all, I came to the conclusion that there should have been less chips. Maybe 1 package or 1 and 1/2 pkgs. The chips didn’t melt much in that short of time either. I cooked it for 7 minutes and they still didn’t melt. Then I stirred and stirred and they never did melt. I put the fudge in a buttered pan and I hope the heat will melt the chips. I also added a caramel extract for flavor. I’m out of vanilla.
Aimee Berrett says
I’m so sorry you had problems with this recipe Arlene. Chocolate chips should definitely melt in your microwave in just a few minutes, it should not take 7 minutes, so my guess is your microwave has very low power or maybe there was an issue with the bowl you used, as I’ve had that problem before. Sorry! :/
cindy lamantia says
Baking and candy making are a science. You must follow directions exactly*. If you over heat chocolate it will seize, which means it won’t melt, it will just glob up. You can NOT put liquid in with chocolate, ie extracts, water, milk. Sweetened condensed milk is sugar with condensed milk. You can however melt chocolate with heavy cream, to make a Ganche. *nut’s and dried fruit ARE interchaangible, though.
Aimee says
Thanks for your help Cindy! Yes, the recipe is a simple one, but should be written as directed. 🙂
Romesa says
Hi, I have ony a 10 oz packet of dark chocolate chips, would you be able to tell me how much of the other stuff I will need. Thanks! ♡♥♡
